Country Has Recycled 248,700 Tonnes of Aluminum Beverage Cans of a Total of 253,100 Tonnes

WAM reported that the Brazilian Aluminum Association and Associaçao Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Latas de Alta Reciclabilidade ABRALATAS, the Brazilian Association of Cans of High Recyclability inform that the country has recycled 248,700 tonnes of aluminum beverage cans of a total of 253,100 tonnes available in the market in 2011. The aluminum beverage cans recycling rate therefore, reached 98.3%, keeping Brazil ahead in the world leadership since 2001.

According to data provided by both associations, last year 18.4 million packages were recycled and this means 50.4 million per day or 2.1 million per hour.

Mr Renault de Freitas Castro CEO of ABRALATAS said that the beverage can manufacturing industry has been investing continuously to meet the demand the industry increased in 2012 its productive capacity in 9,5% going from 21 billion to 23 billion units per year; an expectation of 7% growth in the consumption of cans.

Mr Carlos Roberto de Morais coordinator of ABAL Recycling Committee celebrates another record in the recycling of aluminum cans and explains that this result has its foundation in a chain structured more than 20 years ago and that guarantees a strong and consistent demand that remunerates all the links involved therein.
